CPR app

SUMMARY

The 30.2.Repeat looks to serve as an easy and accessible way for people to become familiar with hands-only CPR and traditional CPR. This application hopes to overcome some of the barriers users expressed were preventing them from learning this life-saving first aid by placing the information directly in their hands and on their computers. It also serves as a step-by-step guide, in case of emergency when tensions are high.

CONCEPT

CPR information app

OVERVIEW

PROBLEM

Statistically only 18% of people are familiar and up-to-date on their CPR training.

Through beginning stage interviews, we found that throughout the community many people had the desire to learn CPR (hands-only and traditional) however there were many barriers that stood in the way: finances, time, work, etc. This led to the question -

STAKEHOLDER INTERVIEWS

How can we make CPR instruction more accessible?

THE PROCESS

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Through completing competitive benchmarking via the discovery process we focused on answering the following:

  • Who are the key competitors?

  • What are the type and quality of competitors' products?

  • How do competitors position themselves on the market?

  • How do competitors talk about themselves?

  • What are their strengths?

  • What are their weaknesses?

  • Where are the gaps?

  • Where are there opportunities for our app to improve upon current solutions and meet the needs/frustrations of our users better?

IDENTIFYING CHALLENGES

Through interviews and focus groups, the most common challenges included:

  • While getting CPR training still remains the best way to learn CPR, financial barriers keep many from participating.

  • Taking time off work to attend CPR classes is not an option and finding classes that are congruent within people’s availability is hard, if not impossible.

  • Finding and scheduling traditional CPR Certification is frustrating and time consuming.

FIRST ROUNDS OF PROTOTYPE FEEDBACK - LOFI PROTOTYPE

The first rounds of testing revealed three main pain points in the user journey: users felt the emergency button was in an inconvenient place, users felt the font was too small, and users wanted more information provided with options to find/learn about more resources.

Emergency button

Adjusted the placement of the 'Emergency' button in accordance with heat maps of most comfortable and common thumb placements. This cut down on accidental button clicks by almost 100%.

Additional information

Added 'Local Resources' and 'FAQ' to the Home Screen in order to provide additional information.

Font and font size

Adjusted the font size and how much information there was per screen in order to provide an easier to read and less overwhelming experience.

TESTING, TESTING, AND MORE TESTING - HIFI PROTOTYPE

More rounds of prototype testing, after changes were implemented, were conducted with a wide variety of participants. The feedback gathered allowed us to make adjustments to the user flow which garnered a well-rounded, more intuitive product. 100% of individuals were able to complete the instructional portion, finding local resources, and the emergency scenario.

SOME FEEDBACK FROM USERS DURING TESTING.

While I will probably get CPR Certified at some point, now I know the steps and feel more comfortable to assist if someone needs help.

"The simple, emergency walkthrough would provide helpful instruction's and in a real emergency when things are chaotic and adrenaline is pumping."

REFLECTIONS

IMPACT

During the interviews, it became evident that there was a strong desire among people to learn CPR. Unfortunately, various limitations such as financial constraints and time constraints prevented them from doing so. To address this issue, by offering a free and accessible platform for acquiring CPR knowledge, we can significantly increase the rate at which CPR is administered. Consequently, this initiative will enhance the survival prospects of individuals in emergency situations within our community.
